A MAN who stabbed another in the stomach is now behind bars.

Scott Childs, 19, of Gilthwaites Crescent, Denby Dale, was sent to a young offenders’ institute when he appeared at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

He had denied wounding and theft.

Simon Appleyard, now 28, suffered a serious stab wound to the stomach in an incident.

He was off work for a month after the attack outside his girlfriend’s home, which was next to where Childs lived, last December 27.

He had heard a noise while getting ready for bed and saw Childs breaking into a car in the street.

A scuffle ensued and Mr Appleyard was stabbed.

His father, Mr Elliott Appleyard, also of Gilthwaites Crescent, said after the case he was delighted with the police and legal system.

He added: “The police and judge who dealt with the case throughout have been tremendous.

“The police officer who dealt with the case has kept us informed and the judge made sure he remained with the case until sentencing.

“We are pleased with the way Childs has been dealt with.”
