A Huddersfield school has won a £50,000 energy makeover.

Pupils from Fixby Junior and Infant School helped win the prize pot in a British Gas Generation Green competition.

The school will now be transformed with state-of-the-art energy-saving technology, such as solar panels, LED lighting and a new energy efficient boiler.

It could save the school up to £7,000 a year on their fuel bills.

They discovered they won after performing an energy-inspired dance in front of Diversity stars, Jordan and Perri at the White Rose shopping centre in Leeds.

Teacher Dan Martin said: “Being crowned the winners has really topped off an excellent day.

“Our children got into the spirit of the competition from the start and have learned lots about energy efficiency along the way.

“We can’t wait for the energy makeover to take place at the school.”

School pupil Lydia, aged 11, added “Meeting Jordan and Perri meant the world to me and it was amazing that our dancing created energy.”

Abi Robins, Director of Corporate Responsibility Programmes at British Gas, added: “We’re delighted for Fixby Junior anmd Infant school after their incredible performance.

“The pupils have captured the spirit of Generation Green with their creative dance routine and imaginative ideas for an eco-school, and are now budding energy innovators for the future.”

The school was declared champions of the Yorkshire and Humber competition region by Diversity stars, Jordan and Perri.

Pupils will also get the chance to travel to London to take part in a dance workshop with the whole of Diversity.
