A FLOOD-hit community has been put on flood alert once again.

Towns along the River Calder, from Brighouse to Todmorden and towards Mirfield, are on flood alert.

The Environment Agency says they are at risk due to the amount of water building up from melted snow.

Much of it is coming down from higher locations and causing problems when it meets the river and canals.

It comes as Salendine Nook weatherman Paul Stevens warns of a “stormy day” today with strong winds and more heavy rain from midday.

The gusts will top 50mph and continue into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

The weather claimed the life of a canoeist in the Yorkshire Dales.

The man, who was in his 30s, got into difficulties in the River Arkle, near Reeth, prompting a major rescue operation.

The man was pulled from the freezing water after he became trapped in debris and taken to hospital by air ambulance but was pronounced dead.
