PEOPLE living in areas prone to flooding are being told to prepare for an increase in river levels.

The Environment Agency has put the River Colne on its floodwatch list.

Last week Salendine Nook meteorologist Paul Stevens warned of the possibility of flooding over the next seven days.

The Environment Agency is monitoring the River Colne, River Holme, Fenay Beck and their tributaries.

The River Calder and its tributaries from Todmorden to Brighouse are also being watched.

The floodwatch status means people should expect flooding of low-lying land and on roads.

But the status can change daily depending on rainfall.

Mr Stevens last week warned of the possibility of strong winds, flooding in at-risk areas and even snow on high ground towards the end of the week.
