THE Great Yorkshire Show starts today with Huddersfield people playing a vital part in the big event.

Floral designer Gill Corder, of Birkby-based The Flower Studio, has used hundreds of flowers to create eye-catching displays in the President's Box and Sponsors' Area overlooking the main ring.

The displays include Singapore Orchids, white roses and Cala lilies.

Gill said: "This is the third Great Yorkshire Show I've done and, with it so hot this year, I've used as many tropical flowers as possible."

She will keep checking on all the blooms during the three-day event and replace those wilting in the heat.

Models from the Louise Morton Model Agency will also be starring in fashion shows at the event, which runs until Thursday at a 450-acre site close to Harrogate in North Yorkshire.
