HUDDERSFIELD ring road is to have a floral facelift.

Planters are to be put in place around the road at Castlegate and Queensgate.

Some will also go on New Street.

The planters are similar to displays already in place in Halifax and have a special liner to make sure plants can be put in them all year round.

The idea was suggested by Kirklees Clr John Smithson, chairman of Kirklees Council’s Huddersfield Town Centre Sub-Group.

He said: “It is important to make this area more attractive as it is one of the main ways visitors and tourists access Huddersfield.

“We need to make a good impression.”

The council’s Huddersfield Area Committee is due to consider paying for the project to make sure the planters are in place by next summer.
