Fly-tippers have blighted the moors above Huddersfield with furniture.

And it will create a headache for council workers who have to haul the bulky items from the rural location to dispose of them correctly.

The photos of the unusual site was captured by motorist Mark Mercer from Scapegoat Hill yesterday morning just beyond Buckstones on the A640 between Huddersfield and Rochdale.

The items dumped include a double bed, a sofa and armchairs.

They were located about three miles from Denshaw and one mile from the car park where the B6114 joins New Hey Road.

In April Mr Mercer took photos of a huge load of rubbish was dumped alongside the A640 New Hey Road at Nont Sarah’s, near Scammonden.

That was is the latest in a series of such incidents across Kirklees. Only days before the council reported that they are receiving a staggering 250 calls every month and having to spend thousands of pounds in clearing up the mess.

Mr Mercer said at the time: “I have never seen such a dump. It looks like a house clearance.”

Just weeks before that incident 18 refrigerators were strewn over moorland above Diggle, 100 yards from the A62 near to Brunclough Reservoir.

This week’s incident comes as a figures shows there were more than 800 cases of fly-tipping in Kirklees last year.

But despite extensive investigations only eight people were punished.

The illegal dumping of waste has increased dramatically over the last year according to government statistics but a recent survey commissioned by Mirfield-based Furniture Choice shows that people in the UK don’t feel there are any easy alternatives.

You can find Kirklees' waste and recycling sites here.

One in five adults openly admit to having fly-tipped with over a quarter (28.1%) not realising it was actually illegal.

Reasons given include there was nowhere else to take rubbish (38%), the cost of disposing of it properly was too high (16%) or because they could get away with it (11%)

The area of the latest incident is covered by Oldham Council but the public can report fly-tipping in Kirklees on 01484 414700.
