REGENERATION group Pennine Prospects will hold a conference on Friday to discuss how to put the South Pennines on the map.

Pennine Prospects is a partnership between local authorities in West Yorkshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester together with utility and transport companies and heritage associations.

Formed in 2005, the partnership aims to boost the economy, welfare and tourism of the region.

Speakers at The Square Chapel, Halifax, include representatives from Natural England, The Ramblers’ Association and Northern Rail.

In its first year Pennine Prospects has:

Won a £50,000 grant from Heritage Lottery Fund for a South Pennine watersheds project;

Secured £45,000 grant from Natural England to combat moorland fires;

Organised a three-week South Pennines Heritage Festival attended by 1,500 people.
