EVER wondered how to stop annoying sales calls and junk mail?

The key to peace and quiet could be Consumer Direct.

The telephone and online consumer advice service, supported by the Department of Trade and Industry, acts as a frontline for West Yorkshire Trading Standards.

And now the service is staging a travelling roadshow, stopping off at Woolshops, Halifax, on Friday, and at the Ridings Shopping Centre, Wakefield on April 12.

John Field, of manager of Consumer Direct for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "We want to empower consumers by giving them the knowledge, tools and confidence to resolve their problems themselves.

"We hope these exhibitions will make more people aware of their rights as consumers, and if they have problems with goods and services they've bought, where they can go for help and advice when they need it."
