MORE than 1,200 children and young people fell victim to sex offenders in West Yorkshire last year.

And of those, 86 of the victims were toddlers or babies under the age of four.

Latest figures revealed by the charity NSPCC show that 379 of the 1,205 victims were children aged between five and 11.

The figures relate to crimes carried out in a 12-month period between 2009 and 2010.

The total was the third most recorded by police in the England and Wales – behind the Metropolitan Police which recorded 3,672 and the West Midlands force with 1,531

The figures have risen by an average of 8%.
