A NEW series of local and family history courses is on offer.

Kirklees Council's libraries and community history services have joined with the Workers' Educational Association to run a number of courses.

Buildings of Huddersfield and District starts next Wednesday at the Tolson Museum, Moldgreen.

It will look at the area's historic buildings, ranging from the Middle Ages to the mid-20th century, and how they have responded to changing functions and fashions.

The seven-week course will run between 2pm and 4pm each Wednesday.

Family History; Moving On From Basics is a seven-week course to be held at Cleckheaton Library on Fridays between 10am and noon, starting next Friday.

People will study parish registers, wills and deeds among other 19th and 20th century sources of information.

The course will include a visit to an archive and some internet experience.

Ways into Local History; 19th and 20th Centuries will be held at the Red House museum, Gomersal, from 2pm to 4pm on Thursdays, starting on January 27.

The 11-week course will help people delve into the history of their house, family, town of village.

It will introduce them to sources of local and family history and include an archive visit.

Open College credits are also available.
