A BINGO club in Huddersfield helped to raise thousands of pounds for cancer sufferers.

Mecca Bingo in Folly Hall contributed to a £280,000 pot of cash for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Staff raised the money through a variety of events including a sponsored body wax, an It’s a Knockout Tournament and an abseiling challenge.

The bingo hall was one of 103 Mecca Bingo Clubs across the country which took part.

Michelle Winfield, manager of the St Thomas Road venue, said: “The impressive result achieved goes to show just how hard everyone has worked.

“We also mustn’t forget that this impressive result is also down to our generous customers – we wouldn’t have been able to do this without them.”

The funds raised will pay for 14,000 hours of nursing care.
