CROWDS flocked to the Colne Valley Local Food Festival at the weekend.

The event in Slaithwaite offered visitors the chance to sample a variety of food, drink and crafts.

There was also music from local bands and a treasure trail, which encouraged people to see what stores are available.

The festival, which is now in its third year, also saw the launch of Totally Locally.

The scheme celebrates the village and its businesses and is designed to ensure Slaithwaite stays vibrant.

Marie-Claire Kidd, Green Valley Grocer’s local food co-ordinator, said: “There’s a lot of innovative stuff going on here, we’ve got quite a special food culture.

“But we want to encourage people to keep it local for shopping and see what’s available locally.”

Running up to the festival there was a fortnight of events around the valley to celebrate local producers and the richness of wild food.

These included meeting different producers around the village, a food walk and a film night.
