STAFF from a food company are swapping selling calories for burning them off.

The team of 10 employees from Dalton-based company Total Foodservice are to take part in an ambitious 170-mile coast to coast cycle.

The three day ride will raise money for the Crossroads Care, which provides support services to carers in their own home.

The men-only team is made up of staff from all areas of the business.

They will start their cycle challenge on May 20 in Morecambe, climbing the across the hills of the Yorkshire Dales to end in Bridlington on May 22.

It is the second time that the company, which supplies commercial kitchens across the North, has raised money for charity through a bike ride.

Last year the team raised funds for Huddersfield-based road safety charity Brake through the original coast to coast ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.

General director Graham Sheard said: “After the success of last year’s event we decided to set ourselves a new challenge.

“When I heard about the completion of the new coast to coast route in September, I immediately started recruiting the team again.”

The company encourages their employees to keep fit through its participation in the Discover Cycling to Work campaign.
