SIX teenage football fans from Huddersfield have been charged with taking part in a pre-arranged brawl.

The group – Robert Bates and Scott Dawson, both 18, and four others between 15 and 17 who cannot be named for legal reasons – are alleged to have been among about 40 youths involved in the incident in Wakefield.

They are charged with committing affray on March 24 – the same day England played Israel in a European Championship qualifying match.

One of the group from Huddersfield, a 15-year-old, is also charged with assault.

Another, who is 17, is facing an additional charge of criminal damage.

A 16-year-old is charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

It is alleged the six were among about 20 fans from Huddersfield who arranged over the internet and by mobile phone to meet about 20 fans from Sheffield in Wakefield for a violent confrontation.

A first hearing took place at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The case was adjourned until October 2 so that all parties could watch CCTV footage of the alleged incident.

All the defendants were granted bail.
