A MIRFIELD football team has called foul after being left with no pitch to play on.

The Towngate Wasps team played at the Syngenta playing fields at Leeds Road, Huddersfield, for eight years.

But they had to find a new meeting place when Huddersfield Town's academy side began training there.

Team secretary David Squire said the team had been told by Kirklees Council that it could play on the field at Butt End Mills, Battyeford.

But two weeks before the start of the Heavy Woollen League season he was told the pitch was no longer available.

"We just want to be able to play in Mirfield," he said.

"We thought we were going to be playing in Battyeford, but we had this dropped on us at the last minute."

The team has a new strip and newly-refurbished changing rooms, but no pitch to play on locally.

It is currently playing matches at Leeds Road Playing Fields.
