A MAN drove illegally because he did not realise he had to insure his car for work.

Foreign student Zakshmi Ammineni was before Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday. The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to driving without insurance on April 26.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said that police saw Ammineni driving his Nissan Micra just before 11am.

He was pulled over because his rear tail lights were defective.

Ammineni, of Carlton Street in Hillhouse, said that he was working making deliveries.

Further checks revealed that the vehicle was covered for social, domestic and pleasure but had no business insurance.

Ammineni said he did not realise he needed to be covered for this.

District Judge Marie Mallon endorsed his licence with six penalty points. She also ordered him to pay £100 fine, £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
