A CHILDREN’S hospice will benefit from on-site catering facilities, thanks to a £40,000 cash boost.

Children and their families will be able to enjoy mealtimes together at the new West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust centre in Brackenhall, thanks to a huge cash injection.

The generous donation came from the Huddersfield Common Good Trust (HCGT) a charity set up almost 50 years ago to help local causes.

The money will be used to fund a full industrial kitchen in time for early 2012, when the hospice welcomes its first families to the centre.

The care team is already supporting children with terminal or life-limiting conditions within the community.

Now, the vital catering equipment will mean staff can open the doors to the £2.5m hospice and respite centre, off Fell Greave Road.

Peter Branson, chief executive of the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, said: “Not only is this a fabulous donation but it is also a wonderful gesture of support from a local charity that exists for the good of Huddersfield people.

“To know that we have a kitchen that will allow us to deliver healthy food to local children and families for many years to come is very special and something we are exceptionally grateful for.”

The HCGT donation was given to continue its support of the local hospice movement, following on from its large contribution to the building of Kirkwood Hospice more than 20 years ago.

Val Javin, chairman of HCGT said: “The Trust is delighted to have been able to support the Forget Me Not children’s hospice in this way.

“This is only the second time in the Trust’s 50-year history it has given a donation on such a scale.

“It has only been able to do this because of the generosity of the fund’s founders and the continuing support of those who will give money to a Trust, which last year was able to give grants to almost 40 community groups in the town.”
