A FORMER Conservative is standing for the Greens at the upcoming Kirklees Council elections.
Eileen Marchant will contest the Almondbury seat at the vote on May 6.
Mrs Marchant, who used to be a Conservative Party member, said: “The Green Party has a good track record in Huddersfield and is a positive alternative to the old parties.
“It is my natural home politically and one where I feel I can make a real difference for local people without compromising what I believe in.”
The Almondbury mother-of-two has worked as a school governor, prison visitor and school inspector.
The Greens finished fourth in Almondbury at the last Kirklees election in 2008.
