A HOLMFIRTH man has been charged with robbery and firearms crimes.

Police have charged 48-year-old former shopkeeper Derek Wormald with an attempted robbery in Retford. Wormald, of Cinderhills Road, Holmfirth, has also been charged with two firearms offences following the incident at Rhythm n’ Booze in Retford on Saturday, August 6.

Wormald has also been charged with the robbery of a bookmakers in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, on Tuesday, August 2.

He appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody.

He will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, August 23. Wormald used to run the Willow Bank convenience store in Cinderhills Road, Holmfirth.
