FORMER Huddersfield University student Leon Doyle led his team to failure on last night’s The Apprentice.

But the 26-year-old (above) avoided getting fired from the boardroom by Lord Alan Sugar, with fellow teammate Alex Britez Cabral becoming the latest contestant to be sent home.

For Leon, a Huddersfield transport and logistics student, it was a second time in the boardroom in the first two episodes.

But Leon avoided being fired despite Lord Sugar telling him he was yet to see him “sparkle”.

Instead, Alex Britez Cabral was told by Lord Sugar that he wasn’t smart enough at a mobile phone app task and was axed for doing too little.

On last night’s show Leon put himself forward for project manager for a task of designing a smartphone app.

They were judged on the number of downloads but their app, which reeled off phrases in different accents, achieved only a third of their rivals’ total.

Project manager Doyle earned a rebuke from fellow contestants after he changed his mind about who to take into the boardroom showdown after coaxing from another contestant, Jim Eastwood.

But Leon has the backing of accountant Edward Hunter, the first contestant to be fired, who said Leon would go on to win the show.

Life in student digs in Huddersfield inspired Leon’s first business idea – The Master Menu.

Kirkheaton businessman Richard Reed, founder of Innocent Smoothies, appeared on The Apprentice You’re Fired in which he offered words of wisdom to the contestants.
