A FORMER landlady, whose pub was closed because of antisocial noise, has denied wrong-doing.

Mandy Hester, 49, ex-landlady of The Swan, Station Road, Marsden, pleaded not guilty to failing to comply with a noise abatement order issued on June 29 following complaints from neighbours.

The Swan was closed in August and Hester was barred from the licensed area of the premises in the first Asbo issued by Kirklees to shut a pub.

Representing Hester, who was absent from yesterday’s hearing at Huddersfield Magistrates Court, solicitor Ian Whiteley said his client would also deny charges of ‘carrying on unauthorised licenseable activities’ at the Swan between June 26 and July 26.

The pub, which was licensed until 12am on weekdays and 2.30am on weekends, was ordered to close by a district judge in Huddersfield following complaints of loud music, shouting and fighting until the small hours.

But passing the order District Judge Richard Manning said Miss Hester had been forced by pressures from the brewery to increase trade.

The case was adjourned until October 13.
