FORMER captain of Meltham Golf Club Neil Birks has donated the money collected during his tenure to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Throughout the year players who have hit a bunker have been among those to donate to the charity, which has special significance for Neil.

He said: “My father-in-law was the Town player Brian Gibson who died recently of a cerebral haemorrhage, and my mother got Alzheimer’s so that was behind my decision to chose the charity.”

Neil was captain throughout 2009 and each year the captain nominates a charity close to his heart.
