Rianne Moorhouse was born to tease.

And now the 22-year-old hairstylist, who left Huddersfield and the UK at 17 is out to win her first ever burlesque competition – Miss Burlesque Australia.

There are nine girls competing in Melbourne for the title.

From a young age Rianne says she always knew the stage was somewhere where she wanted to be.

Her parents, Joanne Morgan and David Moorhouse, supported Rianne in her dancing and put her in to one of the best Freestyle Dance schools around, Caspers while her teacher Claire taught her discipline, technique and encouraged her love for dance.

She went on to compete as a solo performer and in doubles with her partner, Hannah Carr, and won numerous trophies and medals.

A love of glittering costumes, tassels, feathers and gleaming rhinestone was born.

She says she has always “craved the feeling of being on stage” and has had a huge love for anything vintage and would recreate looks from the old black and white movies.

Rianne, a former Bradley Infants and Junior School pupil, said: “I can thank my grandma, June Moorhouse, for this as she would sit with me and watch old films and musicals over and over again until I knew every line and step.

“After being so intrigued by this era, I began to do my research and stumbled across the world of Burlesque also know as The Art of Tease. I was sold.

“I began to perform again, I’d found my niche! With the stage name, Miss Ree Ree Devine, I began to teach a bunch of curvaceous, body-conscious women the art of tease in a town called Albury, Australia.

“Before I knew it my group had doubled, tripled and the women who first came to me in baggy T-shirts and sweat pants were now at the front of the class in booty shorts, corsets and thigh-high stockings.

“I could see my dream becoming reality. From this point I knew it was time to step it up a notch and promote myself in the Australian burlesque industry.

“I entered Miss Burlesque Australia which is known to be the biggest Burlesque Comp in Australia. I went in with no expectation, only for the experience. I made it through and now I’m in training and preparing to kick some ‘burlesque booty’ on July 11 in Melbourne.

“If I make it through this round then I will go in to compete for the title of Victoria, a state in Australia, and then if I’m lucky enough to take that title, I will then go onto compete for the title of Australia.

“I have to perform two acts, a classical burlesque routine which is old Hollywood glamour, a dance act to music from 1920’s to 1965, and also a Neo-burlesque routine,a dance act to music from 1965 to present day.

“Parading beautiful costumes for each act. I have chosen the classic Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend by Marilyn Monroe for my classical and a Spanish-inspired routine for my Neo.”
