A FUNDRAISING gig to raise money to help cancer victims has made over £1,500.

The rock concert was held at the Royal Oak pub, in Paddock, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

It was organised by former Paddock man Alan Milnes in memory of his sister Lorraine Sykes, who died, aged 54, from cancer two years ago.

After the mum-of-three’s death, Alan decided to stage a one-off fundraiser in aid of the cancer charity she had supported.

He learnt how to play the guitar from scratch and formed a band called Memory Lapse especially for the event.

Alan then emigrated to Canada but returned earlier this month by popular demand to hold another gig.

There he and his bandmates, together with bands Tree Town and Travellin’ Band, took to the stage to perform pop and rock classics to a packed audience.

Alan said the event was a massive success and thanked everyone involved on the night.

He said: “I’m delighted with the total raised – as are Cancer Research UK.

“Thanks to all the people who turned out in force and gave so generously. Lorraine would have been so proud of us all.”
