FAMILIES in Kirklees are being asked to consider fostering children.

Another 30 people are needed to add to the 150 dedicated carers who already support Kirklees Council's family placement unit.

Rob Taylor, fostering team manager, said people from all sections of the community and of any religious or cultural belief were needed.

Long-term foster carers for children aged eight and above were also in short supply.

The appeal comes before the Fostering Network starts its annual recruitment drive during Foster Care Fortnight, May 10 to 23. The network is a charity which aims to promote high standards of care.

It says almost 8,000 new foster carers are needed in the UK. The shortage means children are moved from home to home or separated from brothers and sisters.
