FOUR students were stuck in a jammed lift for more than an hour.

The lift got stuck in an engineering building at Huddersfield University just after 6pm yesterday.

Firefighters quickly realised it was a tricky job.

Watch Manager Andy Farrell, of Huddersfield fire station, said: "The lift door had come loose and jammed the lift in the shaft.

"In the end we had to use battery-powered hydraulic spreaders to open the doors on the second floor and then also force the doors on the lift too.

"The four students were then able to jump down to safety.

"It was a small lift so they were all quite warm after being in there an hour, but were in good spirits."
