TALENTED young Huddersfield artists have been rewarded for their skills.

Eleven pupils from local secondary schools were selected by their art teachers and head teachers to receive a Hamer Award.

The annual Hamer Awards are run by the Huddersfield Art Society and have been given for the past 30 years in memory of former society president John Hamer.

Each award winner receives £25 and the chance to have their work framed free of charge by AC Framing, of Huddersfield.

Seven of this year's 11 award winners brought their work for framing and it was on display at AC Gallery in Huddersfield until Monday.

The students' work has now been moved to Huddersfield Art Gallery, to join an exhibition of work by Art Society members.

The Art Society show will open on Friday.

Pat Pridmore, former president of the society and secretary of the Hamer Awards, said: "The idea of the awards is to help anyone seriously interested in the arts and those who have the ability."
