A MAN is to appear in court next month on fraud charges after the collapse of a Huddersfield community group.

Carl Hayes, who was chief executive of the Kirklees Equality and Human Rights Agency, has been charged with fraud offences after a long investigation by West Yorkshire Police.

Hayes has been charged with fraud by means of false representation and will appear before Huddersfield magistrates on May 1.

Hayes, 38, of Wakefield, was arrested following the financial collapse of the race organisation.

The organisation folded in October last year when Kirklees Council withdrew its £100,000-a-year funding pending financial investigations.

KEHRA, which was based on John William Street in Huddersfield town centre, had 500 members when it collapsed.

It was a group set up after the original success of the Kirklees Racial Equality Council.
