A ROADSHOW offering help and advice to older people comes to Huddersfield this week.

Older people, their friends and relatives are invited to call in to the free event between 10am and 3pm on Thursday at Huddersfield Town Hall to find out more about the services available.

The event is one of a series organised by Kirklees Revenues and Benefits Service and their partners as part of the Lighten Your Load campaign.

The first public event was held in Batley Town Hall in early December.

Clr Paul Battye, who has cabinet responsibility for administration and business on Kirklees Council, said: "We have found that many pensioners don't know about, or feel awkward about, asking for all the help they are entitled to.

"It is only by hosting events like these that we can reach the needy and give them the services they are entitled to."

As well as being offered advice about benefits, visitors to the event will be able to find out about having a free safety check on their home carried out by the police, getting a free smoke alarm fitted, obtaining an energy efficiency grant, help with council tax payments, and safeguarding and promoting their well-being and independence.

Customers can find out more information about the help by calling the Lighten Your Load hotline on 01484 414764 for a directory of exhibitors. Information is on the internet at www.kirklees.gov.uk/lyl
