A NEW move has got under way to break deadlock over a Meltham chemist.

Rowlands Pharmacy based at the health centre at Station Road has been banned from selling medicines and other goods since it opened a year ago.

It currently operates as a dispensing chemist only. Now a new bid is being made to get the planning restriction lifted.

Kirklees councillors may decide on the application soon.

The request has come from South Huddersfield NHS Primary Care Trust after pleas by villagers.

The problems began when Rowlands moved from Huddersfield Road in the village centre.

Councillors said the new site was an edge- of-town development where there should be restrictions to protect the viability of the village centre.
