ELDERLY people are taking home healthy food each time they attend a lunch project.

The members who attend Friday Friends - part of the Huddersfield Deanery Project for Older People - take home a bag containing seasonal fruit and vegetables for the subsidised price of £1.

Around 60 people attend at St Bernadette's for lunch each Friday.

The health initiative was developed by Margaret Horn, public health development worker for the area, along with project manager Joann Wareham.

It is funded through Neighbourhood Renewal which is promoting health in the local communities.

Margaret said: "In this way through working in partnership with Neighbourhood Renewal, the Primary Care Trust and the voluntary sector, we can supply affordable, accessible healthy fruit and vegetables for older people in the locality."
