COMMUTERS faced major problems during rush hour this morning after the M62 was shut following a number of accidents.
The Highways Agency closed the westbound motorway stretch from junction 21Milnrow to 22 Rishworth Moor after the crash at 6.45am.
Access onto the carriageway at junction 22 was also closed. 100 metres of barrier had been damaged.
An agency spokesman said there had been several incidents, with early indications suggesting they may have been caused by icy conditions.
Motorists reported 14 miles of queues as far back as junction 24 Ainley Top, as a gritter was called out to treat the surface.
The spokesman said: "We are working as hard as we can to resolve the issue."
