A MAN suffered spinal injuries and a main road had to closed this morning after a crash in Netherton.

Meltham Road was closed for almost an hour when a Honda Accord and a Ford Escort collided at 6.10am.

It is understood the two cars were travelling in the same direction when the Escort smashed into the back of the other car.

A male passenger in the Escort suffered neck, back injuries and leg injuries.

Fire crews from Huddersfield and Meltham were called to the scene to cut the roof off the Escort. The road had to be closed for safety to allow firefighters to carry out the work and did not re-open until 8am.

A man – in his 40s – was taken from the wreckage on a spinal long board. His injuries were not thought to be serious or life-threatening.
