A TRIO of masked robbers attacked a security van and a bank in a botched heist last night.

The incident happened at 8pm on when a G4S delivery van arrived at the Halifax Bank on Wharf Street, Sowerby Bridge.

Three men who had covered their faces with balaclavas approached a security guard and demanded a cash box. They were armed with iron bars and a sledge hammer.

They then threatened the guard and grabbed the box, leaving it in the bank entrance.

Using the sledge hammer they then attempted to smash a glass door leading into the bank but failed.

The suspects then left the cash box on the floor and fled in a waiting blue coloured Volkswagen Golf car. This was being driven by a fourth male.

The vehicle then made off towards Ripponden. It turned right onto Hollins Lane.

No one was injured during the incident.
