A WOMAN has been hit and killed by a train close to Deighton station this morning.

The woman was on the tracks and was struck by a Transpennine Express service at 7.50am and died as a result of the impact.

The train, heading towards Huddersfield, struck the woman just before it pulled into Deighton station.

The woman was dead at the scene.

The incident will cause widespread chaos on the busy line.

National Rail Enquiries are stating that services will not return to normal until 10am at the earliest.
