FRIENDS who met working in a village fish and chip shop are “chipping” in with fundraising for a good cause.

Lynn Withers, from the Captain’s Table in Slaithwaite, joined former colleague Pat Bohdan in an eight-mile sponsored walk from Slaithwaite to Greenhead Park.

Lynn’s youngest son Matthew, 16 – who has just finished his GCSEs at Colne Valley High School – also joined the women in order to raise funds for a friend’s dad who is suffering from cancer.

Dominik Sobanski’s dad Zenofy, who has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, has decided against chemotherapy.

Dominik – a Huddersfield DJ who set up Huddersfield club night The Afterparty – is now trying to raise money for an alternative cancer treatment called Gerson Therapy.

Lynn, 40, said: “I know Zenofy through Dom who has been a good friend of mine for a while.

“I work at the Captain’s Table in Slaithwaite and I know him from around the village.

“I was away in Cyprus and he texted me saying he was raising money for his dad and I just wanted to help.

“I used to work with Pat at the chippy and we became friends – now she works at Kirkwood Hospice.”

Lynn has already raised £600 in sponsorship money from generous customers visiting the Carr Lane chip shop.

The mother, who has three sons – James, 20, Ben, 18 and Matthew, 16 – and Pat got dressed up in tutus and wigs for the walk.

The Marsden woman said: “We also got T-shirts with ‘Saving Dom’s Dad’ written on them.

“My youngest son Matthew is coming along with us. The other two sons aren’t coming because I don’t think they want to be seen with their mum all dressed up in a tutu.

“They and my husband Michael have been fantastic support.”

Dominik, 31, has already raised cash for his dad with a 124-mile bike ride from Holmfirth to Appleby in Cumbria and back.

His dad, a retired shop manager who lives in Highburton, was diagnosed in May.

And Dom-inik wants to raise enough funds to send him to a Gerson hospital in Hungary where the therapy aims to boost a person’s immune system so they can fight off disease.

Lynn, Pat and Matthew were pounding the pavement yesterday.

Lynn has organised a fundraising evening at Marsden Conservative Club on Thursday from 7.30pm.

Local singers Steve Simon, duo Soradis, Sarah Jay and Paul Uttley will be performing.

The event is £2.50 entry including a strip of raffle tickets.
