PEOPLE will have a chance to help Golcar library.

A meeting is being held this Saturday to set up a Friends of Golcar Library group.

The meeting starts at 2pm and will be in the community room at St John’s Church, Town End, Golcar.

Over the last year Kirklees Council has been consulting on the future of village libraries, including Golcar.

While the consultation has shown that there has been little enthusiasm for volunteers taking over the running of libraries, there has been a lot of interest in supporting the services provided by local libraries and organising additional activities which boost their use.

Golcar Clr Paul Salveson said: “We are very lucky to have a well-used library in Golcar with excellent staff.

“The more we can do to support it the more secure its future will be.

“I and my colleagues hope we will get a good turn-out from both regular and occasional users of the library and set up a ‘friends’ group which will work positively and constructively with Kirklees Library Service.’’

Clr Salveson and the other two Golcar councillors Andrew Marchington and Hilary Richards, will be at the meeting.
