KIND-HEARTED Sharon Hanson trekked 10 miles to help a friend.

Sharon, of Sheepridge, organised a sponsored walk to help seriously-ill Kevin Foster, a friend of the family.

Kevin, 42, of Brackenhall, was diagnosed with cancer this year and was recently released from Kirkwood Hospice at Dalton.

Sharon said: "I really wanted to do something for him, so I decided to organise a walk. I had a brilliant response from people."

Last Saturday Sharon and about 10 companions set off on a 10-mile trek from the Top Club at Brackenhall.

They walked a circular route along Woodhouse Hill, Ashbrow Road, Bradley Boulevard, Bradford Road, Fixby Road, Grimescar Road, Spaines Road and back to the Top Club at Brackenhall Road.

The walkers took a bucket on their trip and collected £60 in donations.

Added to their sponsorship, this means they have raised about £500.

Sharon said: "We have raised so much we are giving half to Cancer Research UK, and the rest will go to help Kevin and his family."
