THEY’RE branching out at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Birkby!
Pupils have helped to plant the school’s own community orchard containing a mixture of apple, pear, plum, greengage and quince trees.
Julian Faulkner from Kirklees Council’s Countryside Unit appealed last spring for more schools and community groups to get involved in planting community orchards.
And the school, which has recently undergone some building work, got in touch and said it wanted to take part on spare ground.
The project has been extended with children learning about growing and the environment and a hedgerow also being planted.
