A POPULAR Easter fun fair will not damage Greenhead Park, the organiser has vowed.
Last year’s fair was held at St George’s Square and the Old Goods Yard behind the railway station. The car parks on St Andrew’s Road and at Springwood have both been deemed unsafe sites for the fair.
But this year’s fair comes less than a year after Greenhead Park officials had to launch a massive repair job following the visit of the Chinese State Circus.
The circus machinery churned up the main arena last May, leaving gigantic wheel ruts in the grass.
But fair spokesman, Marshall Waddington, said he was aware the decision was controversial but vowed to leave the park intact.
He said: “There was no mess left in previous years, we will take every care and precaution to leave the park in the condition that we find it, as we always do.
“We’re responsible people, we’ve been passed from site to site over the last few years but we’re led to believe the part of the park we’re using is going to be developed after we’ve gone anyway. We’re not out to destruct anything or annoy residents.”
The Huddersfield Easter Fun Fair runs from Thursday to Tuesday next week from 12.30pm until 9pm daily.
