COLOURFUL toys from the Victorian era have been re-created in Golcar.
A Colour Chaos event was held at the Colne Valley Museum.
Visitors could make a variety of toys famed for their tricks with colours.
They included thaumatropes, discs with pictures on each side attached to two pieces of string.
The disc is spun quickly by the string and the two pictures combine into a single image.
Philosophical whizgigs - known as chromatropes - were also made. These are special lantern slides.
A Victorian favourite, the kaleidoscope, was also re-created.
This is a tube containing coloured beads and fragments.
They are reflected by mirrors to make symmetrical patterns that change as the tube is rotated.
Although most of these items ended up in Victorian toy boxes, they were originally developed as scientific gadgets.
