The line-up for a festival to save Huddersfield’s A&E has been announced.

The #HandsOffHRI Funday Sunday takes place at Greenhead Park, on September 4, promising a day of live music and family entertainment.

Funday Sunday includes a main stage, bandstand stage and demonstration arena.

And performing will be tribute band Take That Live, rock band Storm, ska and reggae combo Superfly, classic rockers Vital Statistix, the Sellouts and young band Days of Riot.

There are also Lindley and Linthwaite Brass Bands, alternative brass band Deadbeat Brass, a ukulele band and Pennine Jazz swing band.

As well as live music there will be dance exhibitions from The Dance Emporium, The Cassidy School of Irish Dancing, Fidget Feet and A2D Cheerleaders plus demonstrations from Team Hanson Community Club Kickboxing, Babes in the Wood Forest School, The Colne Valley Black Belt Academy and MSA Huddersfield Thai Boxing.

The festival will also include Zorb balls, a climbing wall and bungee trampolines as well as stalls selling food, crafts and gifts.

The event, with hopes to attract thousands of visitors, will raise cash for the campaign’s legal battle against the Right Care Right Time Right Place proposal which would close Huddersfield’s A&E and centralise emergency care at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.

Organising team member Ian Bagshaw, of #HandsOffHRI, said: “The Hands Off HRI campaign has been working with local event organisers, local bands and a national tribute act as well as locally based activity groups to bring together a family fun day festival.

“This promises to be an outstanding musical experience with plenty of action packed, fun filled demonstrations and activities.

“The aims and objectives of the festival are and always will be to raise awareness to the campaign against the proposed reconfiguration of local NHS provision whilst providing a fantastic experience for people of all ages and varying musical tastes.

“There is a firm emphasis on providing a family friendly environment for first time festival goers and long-time music fans; everyone can experience a wide range of musical acts within a safe environment.”

The event has been organised by Mike Forster, Helen Robinson, Audley Buckle, Ian Bagshaw, Jonathan Evans, Hannah Dealey.

Current sponsors are Unison, and Re: Hair and Beauty. More are needed.
