A BEVY of burlesque beauties will be making a return to Holmfirth later this month.

Local woman Lucie Evans has organised a second evening at the Picturedrome to celebrate the life of her beloved grandad, Bert Jones, and to raise more money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Last year Lucie organised an evening of music, fun and a touch of burlesque and raised almost £6,500, which was split between Alzheimer’s Research in London and the local Kirklees Alzheimer’s Branch.

Lucie, who lives in Leeds, but whose family still live in Holmfirth, said: “My Grandad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s nine-and-a-half years ago.

“At first, we just thought that he was just becoming forgetful with old-age.

He was only 68, an age that one wouldn’t usually associate with having dementia.

“Following the huge success of the event last year and extremely positive feedback, it was decided that we still wanted to organise an event this year, but didn’t expect it to be in his memory.

“We would like the event to be a celebration of his life and a memorable evening for all those supporting the event.”

Bert Jones, a former policeman, died in December last year.

The fundraiser will take place at Holmfirth’s Picturedrome on Saturday March 27. Doors open at 7.30pm, with the first performance at 8pm.

Burlesque performances will be provided by A Bevvy of Burlesque Beauties from Leeds and there will be music from Rockabilly/Blues band The Graveyard Gamblers. A disco will follow.

Tickets are priced at £15 and are available from www.picturedrome.net or nightly at the venue from 7.30pm.

Lucie said: “Hopefully with this entertainment, we can draw in the same great crowd as last year and have fun whilst fundraising for such a worthy cause.

“I have a fantastic group of family and friends to help out once again and showcase their talents for the charity.

“This year, with the generosity of companies and friends there will be an auction of significant lots which we hope will raise further funds.”
