A MOTHER and daughter duo are making a marathon effort to raise money for Kenyan orphans.

Sarah and Lillian Mollitt, both from Highburton, are running the Flora London Marathon on April 23.

They will be collecting sponsorship in aid of the Kenyan Orphan Sponsorship Trust (Kost).

KOST is a small charity, based in Leeds, which provides support for orphans in Kenya.

Sarah, 29, said she was inspired to raise money for them after learning a friend's mother was a trustee for the charity.

She said: "She spends her whole life trying to raise money for them.

"It's become quite close to my heart because it's very inspirational to see someone you know working so hard."

Sarah and Lillian, 58, decided to run the marathon for charity after completing the Great North Run together last year.

It was the first time they had raced together.

Sarah said: "We didn't do it for charity that time but then thought it would be a good idea to support KOST.

"Ever since I was small my mum has said we were going to do a marathon together one day. We are both really sporty, so it is the kind of challenge we love."

Sarah and Lillian both play hockey, so have a good level of fitness.

But even so, Sarah says training is hard.

She said: "You don't realise just how many miles you have to run to prepare. It's the first time we will be running together - but it could also be the last!"

Lillian and Sarah have already raised £1,000 for KOST but are hoping to collect more before the marathon.
