DRIVERS are being asked for their views on improving one of the busiest stretches of the M62.

Tens of thousands of drivers get caught up in traffic jams around the M621 interchange, near Birstall.

Now the Highways Agency has launched a consultation project about what can be done about the junction.

It is one of a number of schemes that are to be considered by the Agency.

Roads to be looked at include the M1 between junction 30, north of Chesterfield, A1/A64 junction east of Leeds, and the M621 from the M62 to the M1 in West Yorkshire.

Highways Agency route manager, Peter Raws- thorne, said: "The M1 and M621 provide a major transport link between the North and North East of England and the East Midlands, and are of vital importance to the economic performance and growth of the Yorkshire and Humber region and the East Midlands.

"We welcome comments to help us plan the future of these two routes.

"We are consulting widely on this draft route management strategy and will publish the final version early next year, taking into account comments made.

"At this stage, the options are not the Highways Agency's proposals, but have arisen during the course of the initial study and discussion with interested parties. We are inviting people to comment on these options."

Copies of the draft strategy will be available in libraries and local council information centres.
