GALPHARM Stadium chief Ralph Rimmer is leaving – to take up his “dream job”.

Mr Rimmer, managing director of the stadium, is to become chief operating officer of the Rugby Football League.

He will start his new role on October 11 – his 45th birthday. And while the man who began playing rugby for Ulverston in Cumbria admits it is a dream job, he says it was a difficult decision to leave the Galpharm, where he has been for 11 years.

He said: “This new job is a dream job for me, as I will be over-seeing the game I love and in which my background is steeped.

“I say that as if it has been an easy decision, and believe me, it certainly hasn’t. I have been here as CEO of the Huddersfield Giants and then MD of the Stadium for 11 years and have been lucky enough to be involved with some extraordinary people and some extraordinary events.

“It has been an utterly fantastic journey. However, I know KSDL has got many exciting times ahead and the Board have already started to look for my successor. The HD One development project, plus one or two other announcements coming up, means it is set, along with the two clubs, to achieve even more in the years to come.”

Rimmer played for Ulverston, Stanley and Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks before moving into administration.

A former Chief Executive with two Super League clubs, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to a role that will enable the RFL to deliver improved services and revenues to, and on behalf of member clubs, and run the most successful Rugby League World Cup in 2013.
