A WOMAN was attacked by a gang who tried to steal her car while she was in a graveyard.

The 38-year-old victim had parked her dark-coloured Ford Fiesta on Vicarage Road in Thornhill Lees while she went into the graveyard.

She noticed a gang of five young men trying to take her car and was assaulted when she confronted them.

The woman suffered facial injuries and needed treatment at Dewsbury District Hospital.

The attack happened shortly after 2pm last Saturday, but details have only just been released by police.

The attackers are all aged 18 to 21, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 10ins and wore casual clothes.

A police spokeswoman said: "We believe the same men were involved in an incident a short time later in a shop on nearby Brewery Lane when items were stolen and then they made off on a bus."
