THIEVES who stole a recovery truck from a Huddersfield firm rammed a fence to take it away.

The intruders got into a compound at the Huddersfield Accident Repair Centre on St Andrew's Road, Aspley, at about 6.30pm on Thursday.

A £30,000 recovery truck was in the compound, with an accident-damaged Ford Mondeo car attached to it.

The intruders started the truck and used it to ram the fence.

They wrecked the fence, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The company's owner, Glen Hazelden said: "The thieves made a terrible mess of the fence and caused a lot of damage.

"The truck was stolen in broad daylight and it can be a busy road, so someone must have seen it happening."

The thieves are thought to have dumped the Mondeo somewhere.
