A GANG of youths who were confronted after throwing eggs at a car then assaulted the passersby who tried to stop them.

Mirfield police say that the group of youngsters bought eggs from the Co-op on Nab Lane at around 9.45pm and then threw them at a parked Vauxhall Zafira on Back Knowl Road.

Five members of the public confronted the group which led to a confrontation. They ended up being assaulted but none received serious injuries.

Police arrested a 16-year old boy and an 18-year old man on suspicion of affray and they are currently on bail.

But officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

It happened at 9.45pm on October 12, but details have only just been released by police.

They also want to hear from the driver of a black Audi that stopped at the scene at the time of the incident.
